    Lean was a dedicated maniac about creating a reality with film; O'Toole was a dedicated maniac about developing characters through acting - and preferably on the stage. We can see how the coming together of the two boldly inventive geniuses would create great & memorable art indeed; however, we can also grasp why it could not POSSIBLY have been a lifelong creative partnership. That latter fact was a bitter pill for Mr. Lean - but, at least, he was not terribly punitive through his disappointment ...😢

    well, she doesn't use any shoulder rest and any chinrest but she has a modern bow. why ? it doesnt make any sense. if she wants to be authentic she should use old bow. If she doesnt want to be authentic why not to use chinrest and shoulder rest ? maybe she doesnt need it because she doesnt use any "modern" bow technics and vibrato. But anyway. Holding violin like this is not very comfortable. I don't see any benefit doing so.

  • @adamsouthallyoutube
    @adamsouthallyoutube 8 лет назад

    Good performance, but there is no proof that lack of vibrato is historically accurate. I think she's using gut strings but a modern violin set-up and modern bow. In her own words: "I play them on my usual instrument, but I play in a Baroque way, with very little vibrato." There is simply no validity to the premise that baroque players used little or no vibrato, contrary to popular belief.

    • @BillAlpert
      @BillAlpert 7 лет назад

      The vibrato argument will likely never be settled, but Ms Ibragimova proves that a full range of expression can be achieved without any vibrato. That is an amazing feat in itself.

    • @violinhunter2
      @violinhunter2 6 лет назад

      Violin vibrato was supposed to have been introduced by Massart (who was one of the teachers of Kreisler.) My observation (and question) has always been, if singers used vibrato in Bach's time, why didn't string players also?

      This is subjective; I believe he is one of the top five directors to have lived. Although his philosophy was every frame could be its own individual picture/story, his ability to scrutinize screenplays is nearly unheralded. The dialogue and characters in LAWRENCE OF ARABIA and THE BRIDGE ON THE RIVER KWAI, are on par with Lean’s smaller and intimate BRIEF ENCOUNTER.
